The William Doty Art Building at UT Austin is named after Dr. E. William Doty, a big deal in the College of Fine Arts. Back in the day, he was the first dean of the college and basically helped grow arts programs from scratch: hiring teachers, shaping classes in art, drama, and music, and making the whole thing feel alive for students. Because he spent decades building up the fine arts community, the university decided to name the art building after him as a way of saying thank you.
